Job Opportunity: Audience Researcher

I am looking for an audience researcher to join this small team for a two-year project aimed at developing proof-of-concept implementations for exile and underground media ventures. 

The position is remote and part-time.

Responsibilities:

  • Conduct research on media audience needs in challenging environments;
  • Design and implement creative surveys to gather actionable audience insights on functional and emotional needs, pain points, and motivations;
  • Analyze data to identify trends and opportunities for audience engagement in restricted media landscapes;
  • Develop lean audience research templates for newsrooms to emulate based on research findings;
  • Contribute to the development of a comprehensive training syllabus for journalists operating in challenging conditions;
  • Collaborate with newsrooms to create case studies;

Required Skills:

  • Proven experience in design research, surveys, and data analysis in complex media environments;
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to think outside the box;
  • Excellent communication and presentation abilities, with the capacity to convey complex ideas to diverse audiences;
  • Familiarity with media industry trends and audience engagement strategies; 
  • Knowledge of digital security best practices; 
  • Native Chinese language skills strongly preferred;
